U11-2 Northmen Capture 'D' Provincial Championship in OT
The Orangeville Northmen U11-2 team delivered a heart-stopping performance on Sunday August 13 at the 2023 Ontario Lacrosse Festival, securing the 'D' Provincial Championship with an electrifying 8-5 victory over the Mimico Mountaineers. This thrilling game had fans on the edge of their seats, as the Northmen rallied from a 3-2 deficit heading into the third period, ultimately clinching the gold in overtime.
The game kicked off with intense action, and Brody Kavanagh wasted no time, netting the first goal at the 14-minute mark. The Mountaineers made their presence felt, and the Northmen answered with James Moore and Jackson Daniels connecting for a crucial goal at 7:16.
Heading into the pivotal third period down 3-2, the Northmen displayed unwavering determination. Mason Smith rose to the occasion, scoring at 8:18 to tie the game. Brody Kavanagh and Mason Smith joined forces at 5:20, igniting the crowd with another goal. With just 2:34 left in regulation, Mason Smith and Brody Kavanagh combined once again to push the game into overtime.
Mason Smith delivered a standout performance in the extra frame, scoring the game-winner at 6:50 in OT, with assists from Carter Hopkins and Odin Evensen. Brody Kavanagh continued his heroics at 4:26, while Carter Hopkins, James Moore, and Brody Kavanagh sealed the victory with a goal at 0:41.
The Orangeville Northmen U11-2 team's resilience and never-give-up attitude were on full display as they clinched the 'D' Provincial Championship in a dramatic overtime thriller, securing the gold medal and etching their names into Ontario Lacrosse history.
